The Traveling Steve's

Getting started . . . Happy New Year 2015!

As I sit here writing this first post of my first ever blog; I’m at a lost where to start!  Ironically, it’s New Year’s night, and we just finished watching the DVD of the Live TV version of The Sound of Music, starring Carrie Underwood – so maybe I should take her advice and start at the very beginning!

I’ve often wanted to start a blog and this being the beginning of a New Year in 2015 seems like as good a time as any.  I think it’s my way of forcing me to keep track of my travels, pics, videos, and maybe even my New Year’s resolutions, and learn a few things in the process.

So for starters – this blog is The Traveling Steve’s!  Yes, we are both named Steve.  For nicknames sometimes friends call me ‘UNO’ and the other Steve ‘DOS’ to differentiate, but it’s The ‘Steve’s for both of us.  We live in the Orlando, Florida area, and have been happily partnered for 10 years next week.  While neither one of us works for Disney, we are annual passholders and love going to the nearby Disneyworld theme parks.  It’s always nice welcoming friends we have met elsewhere, and showing them around ‘the World’. (That’s me (UNO) on the left, and (DOS) on the right on a flight to Paris this past summer.)

Steve (DOS) just recently retired as a Captain for a major airline, and I (UNO) am still in the work force as a Field Engineer for various computer/software call center installations all over the US, and occasionally international. Fortunately our jobs have blessed us with lots of wonderful travel perks, from air passes for DOS to Frequent flyer and hotel miles for UNO, we’ve been able to see a lot of countries.  I always liked combining a cruise with a foreign stop, while DOS had never really cruised before he met me, doing many land tours over the years.  Fortunately I got him hooked on cruising!

So, while we both may be new to blogging, we are definitely not new to travel!  We both have traveled for work our entire careers, and have seen quite a bit – but as the lyrics from one of my favorite songs ‘The Circle of Life’ goes ‘There is more to see that can ever be seen – more to do than can ever be done’.  So true it is, so there will never be a lack of places to see.  Travel is not only fun and enjoyable, but it opens up a world of cultures, thoughts, ideas and friendships.

To start with, I’m going to be working backwards a bit; i.e.  the trips already taken over the years.  Steve DOS never took many photos before he met me, while I (UNO) was always an amateur photo and video guru; not real good, but at least I tried and always took lots of photos.  Now with the advent of digital photos it makes it even easier – instant, and without the expense of film or developing time etc.  I’ve been in the process of digitizing lots of my earlier photos (especially the cruise ship pics of the 80s and 90s) so this is definitely a work in progress.

I welcome your comments and suggestions and any blogging tips as well.

Thank you, and Happy New Year 2015!
