The Traveling Steve's

Home for the weekend

Heading home from Pittsburg again.  Seat 3C on this Airbus US Airways jet.  I packed my coat in my checked luggage thinking I would be fine with a sweatshirt over my short sleeved shirt; that is until I stopped to refill my rental car and froze outside.  Anyway, hopefully won;t need that this weekend in Florida.  I’m sitting next to a nice man who just retired and is heading to his home in Naples.  He had four car dealerships, but seemed very down to earth and friendly.

Haven’t posted this week as it’s been a busy work week.  I started out in New Castle, PA for a couple days, then moved on to Indiana, PA, with first a day stop in Greensburg, PA.  And finished up the week with at Thursday night stay at the Hyatt Place near Pittsburg airport.  I’m fairly new to Hyatt, just making the minimum Platinum last year, but have been very impressed so far.  The Hyatt Place is Hyatt’s version of Hilton’s, Hilton Garden Inn, or Marriott’s Courtyard; mid-priced lodging for the business traveler.

The Hyatt Place room is set up very nicely and functional for the business traveler.  There was a king-sized bed, with a half wall partition, creating a large sectional sofa in the ‘living room’, photo 1  with a huge wall-mounted flat screen TV viewable from both ‘rooms’.  There was also AV controls on a side panel that provided power outlets as well, which is nice if you want to project your laptop (via HDMI  cable) onto the TV.

They have a bar/deli downstairs in the lobby, and you can order from your room and pickup there, or have a drink or two at the bar.  I asked the front desk woman serving me if the rooms were all similar, as I thought I had gotten an upgraded corner room it was so nice, but she said they are all the same, with the exception of the handicap rooms, or the 2 doubles instead of king-sized beds.  I booked this property again when I come back in two weeks.

Contrast this to the Holiday Inn I had for one night in Indiana, PA.  I had stayed there one night last week due to location of the project I was working on, but it’s a relic of the 1970s Holidome properties.  The staff is very nice, but the rooms are inside (either facing the indoor Holidome, or inside facing the hallway.) photo 2
photo 4 There is not much light in the room as a result, and you can’t open your curtains, or people can see in your room.

Anwway, I’ve started working on my cruise galleries, but it’s taking much more time than I thought it would, as the older photos are not digital and have to be scanned.

Service is starting now, so I’ll have my Coke Zero and hopefully chips and mixed nuts.

Update: Several hours later . . .  My connecting flight scheduled to leave at 2:45 is not leaving until 6 now (original posted as 6:15pm).  They switched the aircraft from a 767 to a nice Airbus 330-300 series and I got seat 4 H – First (Business they call it) suite.Photo on 1-16-15 at 5.25 PM Having a quick pre-departure brewski, and should be leaving before too long.  I called DOS, and he’s coming later to pick me up at the airport.
