The Traveling Steve's

Pre-Christmas weekend at Jekyll – part 1

I haven’t posted in a bit as my 6 year old Macbook Pro finally went out.  Well sort of; it still works if you hook it up to an external monitor, but the display screen went out, so it’s a bit impractical to carry around a monitor everywhere you travel to!  I’m searching for a new one, and hopefully Santa will be good to me this year.  In the meantime here’s a quick post from the past weekend now that I’m back home and can use my old Macbook.

DOS and I went away to Jekyll Island, Georgia for the weekend, which is one of my favorite places.  I have a gallery already uploaded from a previous trip, and will upload some of this trip for the next post.  The island and especially Jekyll Club Hotel were festively decorated, and it was truly a relaxing and fun getaway.  This post will show us getting there, which is about a 3 1/4 hour drive from Orlando.  We went the weekend before Christmas as we will be going to Roanoke for the Christmas holidays.

After packing and loading the car (which was a feat in itself), we headed out. This is actually a couple photos of us getting back to the house with our luggage, as we forgot to take a photo heading to Jekyll.  We travel light for a weekend getaway!IMG_8486   Well, we had some gifts, and a couple mini trees – and of course the stockings had to be hung by the chimney with care . .  .IMG_8481

Once our way, we stopped at AAA headquarters in Lake Mary to get our visa photos taken for a trip to Rio we have planned over the 4th of July.  We recently got our visas for our upcoming Vietnam/Cambodia trip in February, but had booked this Rio trip after that, and in any event we needed additional photos for Brazil.  The first time I went to Walgreens and paid for the visa photos, but as AAA was on the way and we are members, we opted for the free photos there.  It was super quick and convenient and the lady helping us was so excited for us going on our trips. I took this photo of the small tree as we waited for our photos to be processed.

After getting our photos taken, we had one more stop, (ironically) Walgreen’s to pick up some photo calendars I had created and wanted to give out as gifts once at Jekyll Island.  They turned out really well, and it’s amazing they can do a 16X 20 print in an hour, much less three different prints.

So after our two errands, we were on our way to Jekyll Island!  Of course DOS couldn’t see out the rear window due to all the luggage, but he safely navigated us there and back.

After driving thru the gateway columns we coasted down the Jekyll Island causeway, arriving to the Jekyll Island Hotel as it was getting dark.
