It’s Monday night and I’m writing this in the lobby lounge before heading up to bed. Steve (DOS) and I just had a nice dinner at McCoy’s restaurant in the Hyatt Regency Orlando Airport, where we’re staying tonight, prior to our trip to Easter Island tomorrow night. We booked the 7 night park and fly package, which makes it super convenient, as well as an opportunity to relax a bit before the long trip. We can relax in the room and roam around the airport without worrying about being late for our flight due to traffic. The rooms here at the Hyatt Airport are always top notch, so it just jump starts the vacation a bit early by staying here the night before flying out.
We don’t leave until tomorrow night at six pm, and with the Hyatt Diamond 4pm checkout, I can work all day in the hotel without worrying about scrambling to the airport during rush hour. We checked in this evening around six pm, and got one of our two favorite tenth floor runway-view rooms with a balcony, overlooking the international jumbo jets terminal; i.e. Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, and Lufthansa. We always like standing out on the balcony looking at planes, and tonight was no exception.
We stay at the Hyatt here frequently, but this felt a bit odd staying on a Monday night, as we usually stay on Sunday night’s before I fly out for work on Monday mornings. The 9th floor Hemisphere’s Restaurant is being remodeled, (which is closed on Sunday’s so we don’t get there very much), so we ate in McCoy’s, which is our Sunday night restaurant of choice. We were waited on by Alex, who has served us several times and always gives us outstanding service. We ordered our usual: NY strip steak with fries (substituting the probably more healthy vegetables), and paired it with a bottle of Franciscan Cabernet. Since I’m not flying in the morning (our flight to Miami doesn’t leave MCO until 6pm) we split a dessert of chocolate/raspberry/mouse, which went great with the rest of our vino.
After dinner we walked around the Orlando airport a bit for exercise, and to work off our filling dinner. We stopped in the lobby lounge for a bit, and DOS went off to bed shortly after, while I stayed having a brewski to catch up on the blog.
We are flying to Easter Island for a quick week’s vacation tomorrow night, and are both really looking forward to it. Specifically, our flight leaves from MCO at 6pm to Miami, where we have a 3 hour layover, connecting to an American flight to Santiago Chile. As it’s an overnight flight, we don’t get to Santiago until 7am or so on Wednesday, were we’re laying over for a night at the Grand Hyatt Santiago. On Thursday, we are then flying on LAN Airlines to Easter Island, where we will stay for four nights, before flying back to Santiago for a return overnight.
All told, we are staying: one night at the Orlando Hyatt, One night each way to and from Santiago aboard the plane, four nights in Easter Island, and one night at the Grand Hyatt each way going and coming to Santiago. Quick, but long trip, but as it’s on the bucket list, we’re really looking forward to it.
Signing off for now . . . tomorrow’s another (long) day!
