After a days at home from our Emerald Princess Cruise, Steve (DOS) and I returned to Jekyll Island for the 75 Anniversary Black Tie Sourie. The 75th Anniversary refers to the years that the State of Georgia has owned the Island and designated it a state park. Prior to Georgia acquiring the island, it was formerly privately owned by the Jekyll Island Club in the historic era from 1886 – 1942, when some of the country’s wealthiest people wintered here for nearly 50 years in their private island Country Club of sorts. I’ve written about Jekyll many times, but here is a Wikipedia link detailing the the Club Era of Jekyll Island.
On this quick trip to Jekyll Island, we stayed for three nights, Thursday to Sunday, as we are traveling again next week via to California. We stayed the first night at the Westin Jekyll Island as the Jekyll Club Presidential Suite was not available that night, and then moved over to the Jekyll Club Hotel for the next two nights.
We had an outstanding weekend, with the highlight being the Friday night 75th Anniversary Soiree Event at the Jekyll Club. We checked into the Presidential Suite on Friday afternoon, and almost immediately got dressed and ready for the evening Soiree. We invited some of our friends that live on the island for pre-Soiree drinks at 5pm, and everyone was dressed in their formal finest!
I took loads of photos from the Soiree and weekend entertaining in the Presidential Suite, i..e the “Turret Room”, so I’m attaching these as a gallery. Enjoy! A good time was had by all!
