DOS and I drove down to Miami today for a couple night’s fun in South Beach. This quick and nearly impromptu trip was to meet a couple of our good friends who were in from Australia. We emailed back and forth about a week before their flights and agreed on a time to meet for dinner the second night of their visit, thus giving them a day to catch up from the long flights and time zone changes.
After driving the four hours from Orlando to Miami, we arrived at South Beach, admiring the cruise ships and art deco buildings we saw along the way.
We checked into the Bentley Hilton Hotel South Beach, which is oceanfront at Collins Avenue and First Street. We had stayed here a couple years ago as a pre-cruise stay, and really enjoyed the hotel and area of South Beach, which is in a quiet and upscale area off of First Street, around the South Pointe area. Many fine restaurants are within walking distance and the high rise ritzy condos soar over the pricey landscape. This hotel is a condo-type hotel so the rooms are large and nicely furnished. Our room had a full size refrigerator and kitchenette, living room, and separate bed and bathroom. While we didn’t have a balcony this time as we did on the last visit, we did have a nice view of the ocean from our room.
And best of all for DOS, it came with full size men’s slippers!
There is a nice paved walkway from the hotel leading down in the park area along the water, and the cruise ships could be seen in port in the distance.
The first night DOS and I had dinner at RED. Yes, the color RED, but also the name of the restaurant. We had eaten at RED on our last visit here, and enjoyed this visit even more than the last. The high quality steaks, appetizers, desserts and wines, coupled with outstanding service make dining at RED Steakhouse a truly memorable night out.
We shared an entree-sized Ahi tuna for our appetizer which was amazing and paired with a nice Chardonnay!
Our steaks were cooked to perfection, and our Red selection Cabernet Sauvignon was wonderful, coming from the floor to ceiling wine vault on display in the dining room.
We actually saved room for dessert, and we tried a combo of selections!
We were walking of course, so we didn’t have to worry about having too much vino as the end of the night photo with our outstanding waitress might suggest! Truly a wonderful night of dining.
